GIRLS-WHAT TO BRING

A strapless or spaghetti-strap top to wear under the drape for your yearbook photo. All your favorite accessories, including bags, sunglasses, scarves, statement jewelry, Madonna gloves, anything. (Tip: Accessories add interest to black and white images, so go wild.) Props that show off your personality, like musical instruments, sporting equipment and even pets. Touch-up tools for hair and make-up, if you’re doing your own.

RULES OF THUMB

Options, options, options. Bring a different outfit for each scene as well as one to two additional outfits just in case. Vary your style. If you pick a dress for one scene, bring jeans and a tee to contrast it in the next. Solid colors, layers and textured pieces photograph GREAT, but subtle or small prints work well too. Check out our Pinterest Style Guide to get ideas. (Tip: If you’ve opted for a "Classic" look consider breaking out your prom dress, since black-tie looks stunning against these scenes.) Avoid low-cut tops and short hemlines. Our photographers will have you trying a variety of poses, so you’ll want to wear clothing that you can move around and sit comfortably in. (Plus, you don’t want to give Grandma any unwanted surprises.) Do a big load of laundry the week before your session and set aside the outfits you plan to wear. Make sure everything is ironed, with no missing buttons or holes. Finally, be your stylish, gorgeous self. As long as the real you shines through, your photos are going to look great.

IN THE DAYS BEFORE YOUR SESSION

Moisturize and use plenty of chapstick. Don’t make any drastic changes to your hair’s style or color. Nobody wants to be mistaken for Elvira. Unless, you know, that’s your thing. Remove chipped nail polish and leave your nails clean or apply fresh polish. If you shape your eyebrows, keep an eye out for strays. Do what you normally do: Wax or thread two to three days in advance, or tweeze one to two days beforehand, but don’t try any hair removal methods for the first time. Get plenty of sleep the night before your session. (They call it “beauty sleep” for a reason.) Tip: If you decide to spray tan, visit a professional a few days in advance and tell them you’re getting your senior portraits done. Do not try at home! Trust us; you don’t want your senior portrait to look radioactive.

RULES OF THUMB

Diversify your session. Bring a different outfit for each scene as well as one to two additional outfits just in case. (Tip: Even the Basic Session comes with one in-studio scene of your choice, so don’t forget to bring an extra outfit.) Consider a suit or tux. Every guy looks good dressed up. Avoid loud patterns or big graphics. As much as you love that hilarious t-shirt now, you may regret it down the road. Instead, opt for solid colors, layers and textures. Subtle or small prints work too. Change it up. If you wear jeans and a tee in one scene, try a shirt and tie in the next. Do a big load of laundry the week before your session and set aside the outfits you plan to wear. Make sure everything is ironed with no missing buttons or holes.

Stage a dress rehearsal before leaving the house. That way you can make sure you have the right shoes, socks, belt and undershirt for each outfit. Finally, sit back, relax, and be your handsome self!
